THE BIG IDEA

Readiness is a profile, not one number.

An organization can have powerful AI tools and still struggle to use them well. The data may be unreliable, employees may lack the skills to use the tools, or the working culture may discourage responsible experimentation.

Assessing Technology, Data, People and Culture makes these differences easier to see. The purpose is to identify a practical next step, rather than average away an important weakness.

01 / TECHNOLOGY

Can your systems support the work?

Consider the infrastructure, approved tools, integrations and monitoring needed for your intended AI use cases. A successful experiment does not, by itself, show that a system is ready for reliable day-to-day operation.

Ask: What would fail first if this moved from a pilot into everyday use?

02 / DATA

Can you trust the inputs?

Look at data quality, access, ownership and permitted use. AI depends on more than having information available: the organization needs to understand where that information comes from and who is responsible for keeping it fit for purpose.

Ask: Who owns the data issues that could undermine this use case?

03 / PEOPLE

Can people use AI with judgment?

Assess whether employees understand the tools, their limitations and their responsibilities. Readiness includes the ability to question an output, recognize when human review is needed and know where to ask for help.

Ask: Can the people doing the work use AI confidently and recognize when to pause?

04 / CULTURE

Does the workplace support responsible use?

Look at leadership behavior, incentives and the response to mistakes. Clear boundaries and an environment where people can raise concerns help make experimentation useful and keep problems visible rather than hidden.

Ask: Are people comfortable sharing what did not work, as well as what did?

Turn the profile into a next step.

Use the diagnostic below to select the level that best describes each dimension today. Discuss the lowest-rated area alongside your intended use case, business impact and risks. Then choose one improvement, give it an owner and decide what evidence would show progress.

Put readiness into practice.
